How to Welcome Gratitude Into Your Life

What does gratitude actually mean to you?

You know, I don't believe in luck. I mean I don't believe in people who are lucky and those who are not.

What I believe is that people have an option to be grateful or not. Everything else depends on what they choose.

A few days ago, I met a person I haven't seen for a long time. For me, it was very emotional because he caused so much pain to me and to my loved ones. When I saw him, I tried to be calm as much as possible but I still felt angry and uncertain. I knew that he was responsible for certain things that changed my life maybe forever.

But then I realised that apart from the anger I also felt grateful. Grateful because despite the fact what the person did, it made me stronger and aware of what I don't want to be in my life. So, I thanked him in my mind.

As you can see, gratitude comes to us in different ways but welcomes it in life can be hard. At least for me was.

This is for those who want to welcome gratitude in their life but don't know how.

Gratitude is something that should not miss any life. Learn how to bring gratitude into your life by implementing these steps.

At the beginning, you may start with...

Saying thanks

This is the easiest yet the most underestimated way to bring gratitude into our life. My mum always taught me to say hello, thanks and say please. Not only that these words are magical but it's also the best way to start practising gratitude.

In case you have a problem with saying 'thanks' or 'please' to others, maybe this small exercise may help: what about the first thing you do in the morning will be to thank yourself? Say it silently, say it aloud. It's up to you.

Next, you can...

Be aware of the bad things

I told you that the gratitude comes in different ways. Even through bad things. For most of us, it's easy to be thankful when things go well. I mean, it's easy to be grateful for a wallet full of money than a wallet without them.

But bad things happen. And one of the things we can do is to learn to accept it and thanks for this because it will make us stronger, smarter and more mindful.

And also...

Celebrate small things

Do you remember when you last heard this sentence: "What about children in Africa? You should be more grateful for what you have!" Yeah?

Then, please, don't do this. Don't try to be grateful at the expense of someone's bad situation. I mean, be aware of these unfair situations, volunteers and spread the awareness. Yes! But please don't make yourself feel better because you have something that a small child in a poor country has not.

Instead, the next time you pour the water into the glass, just be grateful – say thanks and drink that glass of water mindfully. That's it.

I won't be far from the truth when I say that gratitude is the most important thing right after the love. Being grateful is nothing hard – it's about becoming aware of things we already have.

How did you bring gratitude into your life? Let me know.
